HTC One, though it has been a while since it was released, is the latest flagship by the HTC Corp. featuring a 4.7 inch full HD display, aluminum body and loads of other things that I will not bore you with. If you are reading this article, chances are you already know what it packs under the hood. This particular guide will help you root your HTC One and install the ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery onto it.

Before you begin:

  1. Make sure you have the correct USB drivers installed for your device
  2. Ensure that USB Debugging Mode is enabled. To check please press Menu-settings-applications-development option-check USB Debugging Mode
  3. If you have sensitive data such as your contacts and messages or just to be safe, please backup al your data using your favorite backup application
  4. You need to have the bootloader unlocked. If it isn’t, please head over here to view instructions
  5. Make sure you have at least 50% battery
  6. You’re good to go

Follow the steps ahead to achieve root and install CWM:

  1. Download the root package for the HTC One onto your computer, a file named r1-htcone-Superboot.zip; please Click Here. Extract the file
  2. Turn your cellphone off, wait five seconds and turn it back on into Bootloader mode as so; press and hold volume up and power buttons together,  and wait for it to boot
  3. When in bootloader mode, please connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable
  4. If you already extracted the file downloaded in step 1, please navigate to that location and click the file named install-superboot-windows.bat
  5. Follow the easy steps on the new window that opens up and you should have a successful root

Here is how to install the CWM recovery after root is achieved:

  1. Download fastboot.zip for the HTC One; Click Here
  2. Download CWM Recovery Touch 6.0.3.1-m7; Click Here (recovery.img)
  3. Extract the file downloaded in step one
  4. Switch off the phone and restart in bootloader mode after five seconds as explained above
  5. Connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable
  6. Open the command window and get to the location where recovery.img is placed and type in the following without quotes: “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img”
  7. Doing so will install CWM onto your phone
  8. You are all set with a rooted phone and CWM installed
