Auto Tag Facebook Albums & Pictures

When there are huge albums of lots of group photos, it gets really annoying to tag everyone in each picture again and again. AllFacebook introduced us with another extremely useful application by Face.com. This web app will automatically tag everyone in your photo albums by comparing faces with previously tagged pictures and albums with a success rate of over 90 percent. It will then show you the tags, confirm if they are correct and allow you to edit them. Face.com also allows Facebook integration and you will be able to tag the photo albums directly from the site, saving you a lot of time. Since application is still in beta stage, my account isn’t approved yet. So, I can’t post more details on tutorial but below is an example image by AllFacebook.

You can edit the selection if some wrong image was tagged too. Its really handy and highly recommended application.

Remove/Edit Copyrights and Meta From Mp3 (Audios) & Videos

If you download Mp3 and video files frequently, you must already be familiar with copyrights and meta information on the files. Most of the sites put their copyrights on the audio files. So, when the file gets distributed, others may know who leaked the file or from where was it downloaded.

If you want to keep your files clean or distribute them with your copyrights, then couple of softwares might help you to remove previous copyrights. I am going to share 2 methods below that work best for me.

dBpowerAMP Music Converter:

This is the official site of the software. You can always look for free torrents at Google. I recommend you to use the software with all plug-ins so it may allow you to edit meta tags of each file.

Recommended plug-ins:

  • dBpowerAMP-codec-mp4
  • dBpowerAMP-codec-DirectShowDecoder
  • dBpowerAMP-codec-aactomp4
  • dBpowerAMP-codec-musepack
  • dBpowerAMP-codec-ogg
  • dBpowerAMP-codec-wmav91
  • dbpoweramp-encoder-ra

These plug-ins will enable editing for files in all formats. You can leave plug-ins aside if all you care about is editing MP3s.

After installing the software, you can follow the following tutorial to edit tags:

  • Right click the media file you want to edit.
  • Click on “Edit Tags”
  • Simply edit the tags, add your own tags.
  • Save.

Now that was simple, wasn’t it?

    Method 2: Re-creating the file:

Sometimes tags are a lot worse than we think. A lot of softwares can’t edit them. DbPoweramp only allows you to edit the universal tags but sometimes there are media player specific tags e.g Windows Media Player can add few tags which are not universal tags. These tags may include album covers, websites, URLs etc. You can always manually remove these extra tags but the best choice here is to re-create the file. dBpowerAmp is not only a tag editor but a codec converter too. You can simply convert the file and the newly born file won’t have the tags. Since both methods use dBPowerAmp, I prefer to use it over any other tags removing software.

    To re-create the file:

    • You need to have dBPowerAmp installed.
    • Right click the media file and click convert to.
    • Select conversion type and bit-rate. Keep it same as the original file as you don’t wish to change the quality of file.
    • Un-check Preserve ID tags.
    • Convert.

5 Ways to Create a Million Backlinks Innovatively

When I talk about innovativeness, this is certain that I am not talking about stupid applications or spamming machines to increase your backlinks.

While there are many reasons which make you rank good at search engines, what brings things in competition is the number of links to your site by other sites called backlinks. You must have seen stupid premium applications that promise you to increase your backlinks. But you know and I know neither spamming your links nor paying these creeps would help you rank better at search engines. You will have to think innovatively for yourself to do something and no premium packages will help you out. You will have to think outside the box.

There are few things you might consider doing which will actually exponentially increase your backlinks

    1. If your site is in initial state, you should consider leaving comments at bigger blogs from same niche. Do not spam. Leave comments that actually make sense. This will create a backlink for you and will allow others to check out your new site too.
    2. If you have multiple sites, include a link to your other sites through footer. The footer appears on each page of your site and so the backlinks would be equal to the number of pages at that site.
    3. Keeping in mind the above process, I have an even better idea ;). Why not do something to reach the footer of other sites? That would increase your backlinks like numer_of_pages_on_one_site * number_of_sites. To reach the footer of other sites, you can think about creating a nice wordpress theme and mentioning in footer that theme is created by you. If you think creating a theme is not something you can do then I think you are missing this great free software to create wordpress themes easily for free. Suppose you created a theme that is used by 5 other blogs and all those blogs have 1000 pages each then that means you just made yourself 5000 backlinks. Reaching 5 blogs with a theme is a lot lesser than what you should target. You can target 100s blogs with 100s pages each and hence making yourself a million backlinks. Try submitting your theme for free to all major theme sites like WordPress themes directory, Templates Browser, Top WP Themes, Natty WP and many more (Search at Google).
    4. While gathering information to write an article, you go through lots of sites first. Try to link all those from your post. This will encourage others and them to mention the source of information always and hence encourage backlinking. This will also add a pingback or trackback to your blog from their blog. Trackback means whenever you link a blog from your posts that blog automatically mentions at it’s trackbacks that this post is linked from the following sites, creating a backlink for you.
    5. Think innovative. It’s always better to lead than to follow. Keeping in mind the above tips, try to create a method yourself, which might allow you to increase backlinks in such exponential way. Trust me that method will work best for you.

How To Access Deleted Web Pages – Internet Archive

I have just blogged about accessing deleted pages from Wikipedia but that’s just Wikipedia. Haven’t you ever needed something that has been deleted from your favorite blog? Here’s the solution to your problem Internet Archive: Wayback Machine. It archives regularly and you can find even the oldest of the pages. Google has also got a caching system “Google Cache” but it updates and replaces the previously archived version.

    Access Wikipedia’s Deleted Pages

At times Wikipedia deletes some important information due to certain reasons. 2 days back I wrote an article on Windows 8, the information now has been deleted from wikipedia due to windows 8 being in very early stage. At that I made use of a tool called deletionpedia and accessed information about Windows 8. These pages are indexed by deletionpedia and can be accessed even after the deletion from wikipedia. A must use tool for wiki lovers.

Download Torrents at School/College or Work

Most of the time you can’t use p2p or torrent clients at your college or work. Proxy sites won’t work because p2p clients do not work through browsers. In that case you can use Jondos Jap an anonymity application. I am attaching snaps of the settings you may have to do at jap and your torrent application. These settings are for utorrent.

    Settings for Jap:

Please note that the host IP in picture below “172.16.0.1” was the IP at my college. You will have to put your respective IP here.

Windows 8 to come into focus

Will Windows 7 mark the end of Microsoft operating system road? Will Google’s much touted Chrome OS be the operating system of next decade?  Will Microsoft’s next version of windows be completely cloud-based?

I don’t think so as Microsoft has already started to work on their next operating system, referred to as “Windowns 8”, with main focus on Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) service.

As mentioned in blog Windows 8 Center,

Microsoft starting major improvements for Windows 8 soon. Microsoft already entered the planning stages of Windows 8 last year in March when Windows 7 was still in Milestone 1. The Redmond company recently revealed in a job opening post for the Lead Software Development Engineer position that it will soon begin working on major improvements on Windows 8:

“For the upcoming version of Windows, new critical features are being worked on including cluster support and support for one way replication. The core engine is also being reworked to provide dramatic performance improvements. We will also soon be starting major improvements for Windows 8 where we will be including innovative features which will revolutionize file access in branch offices”

The following innovative features are some of the many features that we could be seeing in Windows 8:

    • Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) service: A multi-master replication engine set up for folder synchronization across multiple servers. This may be something we will be seeing in Windows 8 Server.
    • Major improvements in BranchCache: BranchCache was a new feature developed in Windows 7. Basically when data from an intranet website or file server is accessed, it caches those files locally so the next user can access them more quickly. Major improvements can be expected for BranchCache.

These were some of Microsoft’s comments on the upcoming features:

DFSR is Microsoft’s premier file replication engine and is an integral part of our branch office strategy and File Server role. It can scale to thousands of servers and replicate hundreds of terabytes of data. We have shipped the technology that powers file sharing in Windows Live Messenger, Windows Meeting Spaces (Vista) and Branch Office replication in Windows Server 2008 which has strong customer deployment. DFSR technology saves MS-IT and our customers more than 80% WAN bandwidth by using advanced On-The-Wire differential compression,” the software giant adds in the job posting.

If Microsoft sticks to the kind of schedule to which it has adhered with Windows 7, Windows 8 will be released around 2011 (with Microsoft publicly promising a 2012 delivery target). While it’s way too early to speculate what kinds of features will be in it, it definitely is in the works….

Any early requests for features/functionality you’re hoping makes it into Windows 8 client and server?

    Facebook Breaking Privacy Laws

As reported by privacy commissioner at Canada, Facebook is breaking privacy laws by passing private information to application developers. The report says that the information given to users about privacy is always either incomplete or too confusing. In order to comply with Canada’s privacy laws Facebook needs to take much greater responsibility.

    Privacy commissioner Jennifer Stoddart says

“It’s clear that privacy issues are top of mind for Facebook, and yet we found serious privacy gaps in the way the site operates,”

The investigation, prompted by a complaint from the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic, identified several areas where Facebook needs to better address privacy issues and bring its practices in line with Canadian privacy law.

Facebook has been seriously violating many of its terms and they have been reported by many renowned newspapers, publications and magazines.

Dawn a renowned newspaper at Pakistan says

You willingly post your personal and professional information, publish all the one hundred and six photos which you took at your annual dinner, and discuss the latest happenings in your college with all your friends. All this while, you may be totally oblivious to where this information is being stored and how it will be used.

The recent brouhaha surrounding Facebook and the way it changed its privacy policy, is by no means the only controversy which has enveloped this particular social networking service. Facebook has been the focus of quite a lot of criticism over the years. And yes, these concerns relate to privacy and privacy only.

the new conditions stated that Facebook would retain the information of its users, even if the users delete it from Facebook

Techcrunch also reported in 2007 that the source code of Facebook was leaked and was published on blogs. Facebook has become need of many of us and we even rely on Facebook for our businesses and simply can not stop using it. Some serious actions should be taken against Facebook so it may start acting responsible.
